Summary

This small cooperative near to Buhanga has such a positive, can-do attitude. The farmers are very proud of their achievements in building up the cooperative and recently purchasing 7 hectares of land for coffee without relying on external credit. They have worked with vision and determination, continually re-investing in the cooperative as well as making second payments to farmers at the end of the season.

Kigembe's members see education as a priority. When the cooperative began, many of the members were unable to afford school fees. This is not the case today. The cooperative contribute to the national basic education programme each year and have provided funding to increase the size and capacity of the local school.
